Then to the Japanese Garden & Peace Park in Cowra which commemorate the "Cowra Breakout" in 1944 in which over 1,100 Japanese prisoners of war attempted to escape.
In the result 4 Australian soldiers died and 234 Japanese soldiers either died or committed suicide (rather than be recaptured). It was the largest PoW escape during World War II.
The Garden incorporates all of the elements of a traditional Japanese garden but also includes many native Australian trees and plants giving it a unique appearance.
Culturally and horti-culturally fulfilled, the Prop and Mrs P climbed aboard the Tadpole to head to Yass, but not before visiting the nearby Bellevue Hill Lookout for one last look at Cowra.
Stopped for a cuppa and a muffin at Boorowa and to inspect the impressive public house and the even more impressive former Courthouse.
Evidently the Boorowa region was a fairly lawless part of the world in the mid-1800's which required regular criminal sittings of the District and Supreme Courts of NSW.
Perfick!

Bonzer bonsai; Banzai!
So these escapees 'either died or suicided'. If the latter, did they not also die?
